Hey Y.O.U.!!
I’m so excited to be your Regie this year! I’m 16
years old and a senior in high school. I live in
Roanoke, Virginia and enjoy reading and having fun
with friends and family. I’ve been in Unity since
birth and joined YOU in 2005. This year is looking
great and I’ve just experienced my third IYOU event,
Appreciative Inquiry Summit. It was held at Unity
Village in Missouri and everyone attending had some
interest in YOU and together we co-created IYOU. It
was quite an experience and inspired me to be a
stronger leader in our region. I was driving home
from my very first rally when I first decided I’d
like to become a regional officer. I didn’t know
when or what position I wanted. All I knew is that I
could do it, and that’s all it took. Unity has
helped me in numerous ways along my path. It has had
a big impact on my life, opening my eyes to the many
blessings surrounding all of us. I’ve learned that
everyone of us is a being of light, no less than any
other; that we’re all connected, and it is possible
to turn our day around with a single thought. And,
now, with the opportunity to share that with all of
YOU, it has come full circle.
I hope to see you ALL at Rally this year!Love and
Light,

Dear Youth of Unity,
This summer, I have had the great privilege of
working with campers and staff at an outdoor summer
camp. The job evolved into a chance for me to look
at the world in a whole new light. With temperatures
constantly rising, tempers can too, which often
results in a nasty recipe for hurt feelings.
However, I have learned how to act in situations
such as these. By simply enjoying the company I am
in, I become so much more receptive and
understanding. You may not think that 10 or 11
year old children can carry on an intelligent
conversation, but they surprised me with their
knowledge about the economy and their belief that
the world leaders are much less than perfect. As we
began to explain our opinions on this topic, I
realized that the only true downward spiral in our
lives is negativity. When the children quickly
responded that they were too young to make a
difference, I saw that excuses often get in the way
of change.
The time for change is now, so step up and take
action!! If you ever doubt yourself, just think
about all the leaders out there that stepped up
changed the lives of others for the better. No one
ever did anything great by telling themselves that
they weren’t good enough. Reach for your goals, and
think positive!!
The beliefs and principles of Unity made the most
sense to me out of the many religions that I have
come in contact with. The love that I have received
from the very first time I met my fellow Y.O.U.ers
gave me the strength and courage to get to know
myself. It turns out, I’m a pretty cool person!
Unity has helped me become receptive to every
day-even those really hot days when its hard to be
receptive to much more than just wanting to jump in
the lake.
Seeing the light in you,
Sabrina Richter

Regional Representative of Spirituality

Hi Everyone,
My name is Joshua Bartlett and I am your Southern
Regional Representative.
I live in Richmond, Virginia. I am currently 17
years old and I will be going into the twelfth
grade. I plan on graduating this year with my
advanced diploma and a degree in culinary arts from
the Chesterfield Technical Center.
As some of you may know, I have run for Regional
Office three years in a row. I have also come to
understand why I was not elected the other times or
why I was led to step down. My freshmen year in high
school was a difficult time for me. I just wanted a
place to fit in and I found a place called the Y.O.U.
The Y.O.U. let me express myself in a way I had
never experienced before. In that one year of Y.O.U.
I grew tremendously. I decided to run so I could
plan rallies but there was also another reason. The
other reason was that I wanted to become more
influential and more important to others. I believe
I wanted to justify my own worth through being
elected. This is definitely not what running is
about. The second time I ran I was so afraid that I
was going to lose the election that I had to step
down because of unrelenting fear. What I now realize
is that running is not about being the most
important person, having my voice heard over all
others or being popular. This office is about
sharing yourself with others knowing that everyone
is equally important, and trying to create a
beautiful atmosphere for the group as a whole. I
also realized that if I didn’t win the position, the
person who I was running with was meant to be there.
I hope you all have a wonderful year filled with
laughter, creation, and loving memories. I love you
all, I bless you all, I truly truely appreciate you
all, and I behold the Christ you realize in
yourself. I love you. I love you. I really truly
love you. MWAH and NAMASTE!
